Original Improv Projects
Magical Lying Hour
One of our twin founding pillars, Magical Lying Hour premiered in April 2014 and goes strong to this day performing across the United States with our unique brand of theatrical passion.
The premise is simple: an actor and an improviser join each other on stage, neither knowing what the other will do. The actor has prepared a script from a contemporary play and will not deviate from it for any reason. The improviser must make sense of a partner with limited communication ability. What follows in a funny, touching, and frequently wild ride as they each do what they do best.
Ripley Prescott
Our latest improv project! Ripley Prescott is a full length improvised horror movie. For 60 minutes you’ll be held in the vice grip of the preposterously terrifyingly humorous.
It starts with an audience suggested horror title and then with no planning we jump into a scary world where watermelon-headed killers rub shoulders with Tarzan children who’ve run out of cellphone battery.
Original Cast (August 2024): Sarah Willett, Sarah Petty, Conor Farrell, Kacie Adams, Seth Ramsey, Rafael Lozano, Sofia Uribe, Tyler Rooney, Kitzia Madrigal, and Timely Rain.
SARA
SARA combines the power of some of Houston’s longest tenured improvisers into an inventive supergroup!
Formed by Steven Saltsman, Autumn Clack, Ruth McCleskey, and Aaron Garrett a traditional SARA show has audience members suggest names for improv forms that don’t exist before we create the rules for the form on the fly then perform that show in front of you.
Baron Munchausen
Blackmarket Lullaby
An improv form not for the faint of heart! Blackmarket Lullaby models the primordial soup of the universe in constant birth and rebirth and a large ensemble that never leaves the stage.
It’s a thrilling, challenging, and exhausting show unlike anything you’ve seen before.
If you spend enough time around here you’ll realize that Aaron has an unhealthy relationship with the history of the world, and like all unhealthy relationships he puts it onstage!
Our cast is a group of timeless beings who are here to tell you what really happened in history, beginning with a suggestion of a time period they weave real and fictive stories of that time which usually devolve into violence and backbiting- just like real history!
